Your business can't go according to plan if you have no plan. What do you want to achieve this year? More new customers per week? Higher average order amounts? Better customer service ratings? No matter what it is you are shooting for, goal setting is one of the most important things that you will do in the New Year. Ive got a few tips to help you get there.1. Keep it Challenging but Realistic.Any goal that you set for your company should be challenging but dont over do it. For example, if you had an average order amount of $700 last year, you wouldnt want to set your goal for this year at $3000 per order. Unless you make drastic changes in how your company runs or what you are selling, that goal is just not realistic. You know best what you may be able to achieve in your particular industry, so be honest with yourself and set your goals accordingly.2. Write All Your Goals Down. You may say to yourself on January 1, "I want to get 20 more new customers per week this year." A few months later you will be saying "Did I say I wanted 20 or 30?" Or more realistically, you have forgotten that you even made that goal. If you have all of your goals written down you will be able to not only go back and check them, you will also be able to go down the list every few months and check to see how many of them you have completed.3. Assess Your Current Situation. To set goals you have to know where you are at right now. In 2003 I wanted to assess our customer service rating so we sent out a survey to all of our customers on which they could rate us in each department of our operation. That helped us establish our base. Now we send the survey to every customer after every order. This way we can keep track of how we are doing and if there is ever a hiccup we can fix it quickly. Dont assume anything. Always assess the current situation before setting a new goal. It's Only Going to Hurt A Little...Now, in financial goal setting for your business, one invariably comes to the question: How do I decide on a budget when starting a marketing plan? This is obviously the first question that you have to answer in order to get started on your new campaign and in order to reach the income goals you have set for yourself. So how do you figure out what your budget should be? Here is an easy method to help you find a number that is going to work for you and your business. Some might say that it is a good rule of thumb, but I personally judge things on whether or not they work and get results. Thats all.Moving on... Start with the amount of income that your company generated last month and multiply it by .14 (or 14%). That means that if you had $50,000 in Gross Income last month you should budget to spend $7000 on marketing in the next month. Wait... I know, it sounds painful but it is just like a shot at the doctor. It might hurt for a minute (or in this case a month) but down the road you are going to be glad that you went through it. Putting that much toward the right marketing will bump up your income the next month and start you on a cycle of steady growth. I know that some businesses run tighter than others and it is possible that you won't be comfortable with that amount in the beginning. Don't misunderstand me, any marketing is better than no marketing. Don't get discouraged if your budget is lower than 14%. But use 14% as the ideal to strive for because, for me as well as many other growing businesses, it has proven to give the best rate of growth possible. How do I know, you ask? My company has expanded 400% in the past 2 years. Now picture your business at 4 times its current size... There's that smile I was looking for!The growth of your business is based on three factors; quality products, great customer service and the proper amount of marketing. If you know you have the first two taken care and you still aren't experiencing healthy growth then you need to take a serious look at your marketing budget. So sharpen your pencils, start calculating and decide how rapidly you want your business to grow. Please take a moment this week to sit down and decide on your goals for the New Year. Even if it is past the New Year and even well into the year, set your goals for the rest of the year. Everything is easier when you are working towards a goal. My goal is your success and I assume that is your goal as well.
I have been in exactly the same position, for years I have been searching the internet for ways to earn an extra income, not to make me a millionaire over night but just to make enough to help with the bills or to have some extra cash in my pocket for the little luxuries in life. With so many sites trying to take your money it is not easy to wade through the scam sites and the legitimate opportunities. What as well if you dont have any idea in what is a good product and will make money and what is a bad product that will just drain your resources? Over the years I have tried so many of the so called opportunities and been burnt financially.I now believe that I have found the 3 best opportunities available that require a little bit of thinking and time but can give you great rewards once you follow the proven system. Remember you dont get anything in life for nothing! This is a golden rule to remember, no matter what you do it is important that you need to work at it, how much you work at it can depend on how much you get out of it, not only in a financial sense but also on a personal level. The best products are ones that can make you an ongoing cash flow, ones that have longevity and have entered a market place where there is a niche. It is no good trying to sell something online where the market is already swamped with goods, this will just lead to your product being another one of hundreds without a customer in sight. This is where the research and the years of hard work have been put in to provide the best products available and you can be a part of this. The website gives you an overview of the 3 best finds on the internet and gives you the opportunity to make some extra money with a small amount of effort. What do you do when an employee disagrees with something youve written on their performance review? How can you prepare for this and deal with it effectively?Start by listening to figure out the source of the disagreement. Is it an issue of fact (you wrote that the employee received a customer satisfaction score of 79 but the employee says that his score was actually 83), or is a matter of judgment (you wrote that the employees customer service skills were unsatisfactory; she feels that her skills are terrific)? If the disagreement involves an issue of fact, get the facts and make any corrections necessary. If its a matter of judgment, ask the employee for additional evidence. Then determine whether that evidence is weighty enough to cause you to change your mind, revise your judgment, and amend the rating that you assigned on the employees performance review. Most of the time, you have a reasonably good understanding of the areas where disagreements are likely to pop up in the course of the performance review discussion. Before beginning the discussion, re-read the review you wrote and try to spot the areas where you and the individual may not seem eye-to-eye. Then ask yourself, What am I going to say when George disagrees with my assessment that his performance on the Thompson project just barely met expectations? If youve taken to time to review the appraisal youve written for potential hot spots, and given some thought to how youll respond, youre much less likely to be caught off guard. During the employee performance review discussion, start with your higher ratings and move toward the lower ones. Be prepared to give additional examples besides the ones youve included on the formal written appraisal. Refer back to the informal conversations you have had with the individual over the course of the year. Of course, if you havent had on-going, informal performance review discussions with the individual over the course of the appraisal period, then its much more likely that disagreements will surface during the review. Thats one more reason for scheduling periodic, Hows it going? discussions with each person on your team. As soon as a disagreement pops up, switch into active listening mode. Active listening involves allowing the other person to clarify both the facts and feelings about an issue so theres nothing left under the surface. For example, using phrases as simple as, Tell me more . . . or, What else can you share with me about that . . . ? or, Really . . . ? can encourage people to talk more about their perceptions. Simply nodding without saying anything encourages people to expand on what they have said. Its not at all unlikely that the employee, allowed a sufficient chance to think aloud about what you have written, will end up saying, Yeah, I guess I see what you mean. In dealing effectively with employee performance review disagreements, remember what your objective in the discussion is and what it isnt. Your objective in a performance review discussion is not to gain agreement. It is to gain understanding. If the employee agrees with you, thats great. But particularly if your appraisal is a tough-minded assessment of the fact the Charlies contribution toward achieving your departments objectives was only mediocre, youll probably never get him to agree. Thats OK. What you want is for him to understand why you evaluated his performance the way you did, even if his personal opinion is different. Finally, if you have several employee performance reviews to deliver, dont start with the individual whose performance was the worst and where disagreements are the most likely to arise. Start with the easiest your best performer and move toward the more difficult. In this way, youll build your skills and become more comfortable with the performance review process. Remember the advice that John Dillinger, the 1930s public-enemy #1, once provided: Before you rob your first bank, knock off a couple of gas stations.
Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) is the application of Six Sigma principles to the design of products and their manufacturing and support processes. Whereas Six Sigma by definition focuses on the production phase of a product, DFSS focuses on research, design, and development phases. DFSS combines many of the tools that are used to improve existing products or services and integrates the voice of the customer and simulation methods to predict new process and product performance. DFSS can be compared to DMAIC (Design, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control) and often the acronym DMADV (Define, Measure, Analyze, Design, Verify) is used to describe the strategy of DFSS. The precise phases or steps of a DFSS methodology are not universally defined. Most organizations will implement DFSS to suit their business, industry, and culture. DFSS methodology, instead of the DMAIC methodology, should be used when:* A product or process is not in existence at your company and one needs to be developed* The existing product or process exists and has been optimized (using either DMAIC or not) and still doesn't meet the level of customer specification or six sigma levelDFSS is a way to implement the Six Sigma methodology as early in the product or service life cycle as possible. It is a strategy toward extraordinary ROI by designing to meet customer needs and process capability. DFSS can produce the same order of magnitude in financial benefits as DMAIC. But it also greatly helps an organization innovate, exceed customer expectations, and become a market leader. DFSS is the Six Sigma approach to product designnamely, designing products that are resistant to variation in the manufacturing process. Using DFSS means designing quality into the product from the start. You are preventing wasteful variation before it happens, thus being able to identify and correct problems early when the solution costs are less. A successful DFSS implementation requires the same ingredients as any other Six Sigma project: a significant commitment and leadership from the top, planning that identifies and establishes measurable program goals and timeline, and the training and involvement of everyone.Planning for DFSS requires collecting the necessary information that will allow for error free production of defect-free products and processes that satisfy the customer profitably. DFSS attempts to predict how the designs under consideration will behave and to correct for variation prior to it occurring. That means understanding the real needs of your customers and translating those needs into vital technical characteristics of the product and ultimately into critical to quality (CTQ) characteristics of the product and process. You can then use design of experiments (DOE) to develop a robust design that optimizes efficiency and reduces defects.Valid and reliable metrics to monitor the progress of the project are established early in the project, during the Measure phase if using DMADV. Key inputs are prioritized to establish a short list to study in more detail. With a prioritized list of inputs in hand, the DFSS team will determine the potential ways the process could go wrong and take preemptive action to mitigate or prevent those failures. Through analysis, the DFSS team can determine the causes of the problem that needs improvement and how to eliminate the gap between existing performance and the desired level of performance. This involves discovering why defects are generated by identifying the key variables that are most likely to create process variation. Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) and Anticipatory Failure Determination (AFD) can be used for both the design of the product and the design of the process.DFSS provides a structured way to constructively use the information learned from these analyses. Armed with real data produced by the DFSS process, you can develop competent manufacturing processes and choose processes that are capable of meeting the design requirements. Further analysis can verify and validate that the product design will meet the quality targets. This can be accomplished through peer reviews, design reviews, simulation and analysis, qualification testing, or production validation testing. The benefits of DFSS are more difficult to quantify and are more long-term. It can take over six months after the launch of the new product before you will begin to see the true measure of the project improvements. However, the eventual return on investment can be profound. This is especially true when the organization can use the DFSS project as a template for fundamental changes in the way it develops new products and processes across the organization.
Wire decking is mainly used in large warehouses where the company does not have the time to spend on repairing wooden decks. They need a stable base because they need decking material capable of sustaining heavy loads. Decking made from mesh wire is easy to install because it just falls into place. It is self-cleaning, which means it is basically maintenance free. Although you can have wire decking for a residential deck, as a rule this material is basically used in commercial settings. For cheaper decking, used wire is also a possibility. Since the wire mesh is made from galvanized steel, you wont have to bother with rust and corrosion. You can pick up the used "wire decking" at sales and realize tremendous savings in the cost of buying the wire you need for your decking. For decking, wire mesh is made in the sizes that you need. The custom deck rack is made to fit a specific depth and usually two pieces of wire mesh are set side to side to complete the decking. In the case of wire decking, the word deck means something completely different that it does when talking about other kinds of decking. For commercial uses in decking, wire mesh refers to large racks where businesses store large containers or heavy objects. The wire mesh is white and makes the whole area bright. With the holes in the mesh it is quite easy to see where everything is stored when you are looking for a specific product. The properties of the wire make it very long lasting and durable. For many homeowners who want to have this type of decking, used wire is a cost saving solution to having racks on the wall of the shed or garage. Wire decking is galvanized after it is welded to provide the customer with a lifetime of resistance to rust. Some manufacturers of this type of decking use a gray colored paint as the finish. You have to be wary of this type of decking. Wire mesh with this finish added to it often tends to chip and peel after years of heavy use and provides a used look to your warehouse. When you buy decking, wire that has been treated with an electro-galvanized finish will retain its new look for a lifetime. For cheap decking, used wire with this finish will look brand new. When you have wire decking in your warehouse or even your shed, the light will absorb through the wire mesh giving you a clear view of what you have stored on the decking. Because of the fire retardant properties of wire decking, you may also save money on your fire insurance costs.
